The solution? Card cushions! These thin pieces of sturdy foam work perfectly to place on top of your card before sending it, protecting it from getting crushed along the way.

Card Cusions
I've recently used these and are thin enough to not add much bulk to the card. I usually add a sheet of typing paper but that doesn't always work. This should provide enough cushion for cards with bling on them so they don't pop out of envelopes.
